John Moffitt, DTMSecond year International Director John Russell Moffitt is not a stranger to public speaking or leadership positions. He has served in mostly management positions over the last 25 years, including the boards of two non-profit corporations. John has worked and trained as a scientist. But, he has been "down to earth". How else to get from theoretical astrophysics to ... extinct fossils? Yes, he is the "go-to guy" for trilobites and was inducted into the Rock Hound Hall of Fame for his work in paleontology. He is married to a prominent gemologist and Distinguished Toastmaster, Jill Rowlands. So, he could have been just a nerd. He did not chose to be a leader, rather, he chose to be a speaker, and an evaluator, and a trainer, a timekeeper, a mentor, a contestant, a judge, and ... the whole nine yards, getting his CTM in four months and not stopping, save for the a waffle now and again here and there. He was chosen to be a leader in his clubs, his area, his division, his district, and his region but, always, his clubs. So, he has built success by not just articulating and sharing his vision but by serving his leaders and our clubs -- building on their visions and our success. Most proud of: Development and re-development of new and old clubs but, always, of new leaders throughout Region III. The leaders are always new, always fresh, the members keep us so. District leadership is the challenge and recognition of development in individuals and clubs is the response we expect of this great, mature and, yet, still promising venture. ::JRB
